- Yamaha - A complete line of mouthpieces, ranging in size from smaller
(29C4) to larger (35C4). The most popular are the 30C4 and the 31D4.
The 30C4 is an excellent mouthpiece for all around playing and very good for
beginning through advanced students. The 31D4 is slightly larger, has a
more open throat, and is nicely funnel shaped, giving a round characteristic
horn sound. It is also a good beginning mouthpiece, but is more often
used as a step up mouthpiece after the embouchure is developed.
Yamaha
mouthpieces are known for consistency and quality, and are readily available.

- Holton Farkas - Holton's most popular line of mouthpieces, the Farkas
series offers the player a tremendous range of mouthpiece styles. The
designations are mnemonic: SC means small cup, MC means medium cup, MDC
means medium deep cup, and so on.
Most popular among students are the MC and MDC mouthpieces. The are a
good starter and step up pair of mouthpieces. The DC mouthpiece is
favored by those who like a big, open sound and also by some natural horn
players for its nicely curved funnel cup.

- Schilke - All the Schilke mouthpieces were designed for a particular
player, and the most versatile among them have become standards in their
series of mouthpieces. The Schilke 30 is based on the original Farkas-designed
mouthpiece, and retains all the characteristics that players like in a Farkas
model mouthpiece. As the numbers go up, the mouthpieces get larger.

- Conn, or CKB - Good mouthpieces, designed for Conn players to be used on Conn 8D's
and other Conn models. Many players prefer the model 2 for its rich and
open sound. The 5BW and 7BW are standards that ship with current model
horns, the 7BW for larger horns and the 5BW for smaller horns and descant
playing. Conn mouthpieces come with their own vinyl mouthpiece cover and
mouthpiece brush, making them an even better bargain.

- Bach - A line of mouthpieces
designed for specific types of horn playing.

- Giardinelli - A complete
line of mouthpieces designed around custom models for certain professionals.
The "C" series was originally designed for James Chambers, and is the most
popular of all the Giardinelli mouthpieces. The numbers refer to the
drill index used to create the throat of the mouthpiece, so the smaller the
number, the larger the throat. The C8 mouthpiece is the most all around
of the Giardinellis, and is the best seller.
