Jason Wyse serves as Associate Director of Bands and Director of Music Educator Preparation at Malone University, where he directs the MU Jazz Ensemble, teaches courses in music methods and applied Horn, coordinates the instrumental studio, and guides the music education program. A 15-year veteran of public high school music education, Mr. Wyse was most recently tenured as Director of Bands at Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School (OH), where he led the 300-member BBHHS “Marching Bees,” Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and AP Music Theory course. Under his direction, the BBHHS Wind Ensemble studied advanced wind band literature, performed in Cleveland’s Severance Hall, and consistently received Superior ratings at OMEA adjudicated events in Class A and AA. In 2018, Mr. Wyse served as Conductor of the Baldwin-Wallace University Youth Honors Wind Ensemble, a program for advanced high school instrumentalists. Previously, he worked as Associate Director of Bands at Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School and Director of Bands at Punxsutawney Area High School (PA). Mr. Wyse earned a Master of Music in Wind Conducting from The Ohio State University in 2003, studying conducting with Russel Mikkelson and Richard Blatti, and horn with Chuck Waddell; and a Bachelor of Music degree from Grove City College (PA) in 2001. A member of the Ohio Music Education Association, Mr. Wyse presented a session at the 2017 OMEA Professional Conference, which focused on the use of creative imagery to engage students in rehearsal. Recognized as an Ohio Department of Education “Master Teacher” since 2014, Mr. Wyse is also an honorary member of the Tri-M Music Honor Society, a Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction, and has been acknowledged in Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers and National Honor Roll’s Outstanding American Teachers. An active composer and arranger, he is a member of the Christian Fellowship of Art Music Composers (CFAMC), and has written works/commissions for wind band, symphonic orchestra, choir, and jazz ensemble, with several brass ensemble pieces published by Brass Arts Unlimited. Mr. Wyse lives in Copley, OH, with his wife Julie, sons Trevor and Tyler, and mini-goldendoodle Hazel.
