Tardigrade (The Water Bear Waltz), for horn and piano by Brett Miller
"Tardigrade (The Water Bear Waltz), for 'low-ish' horn and piano" is about a virtually indestructible microscopic creature dancing its way through its weird and watery world.
Tardigrades, also know as “water bears” are found everywhere. These eight legged microscopic animals have been found on mountaintops, volcanic mud, tropical rain forests, the deep sea and even Antarctica. Rasputin has nothing on these little guys. They’ve been observed to survive extreme temperatures and pressures, oxygen deprivation, dehydration, starvation, radiation, decades of suspended animation and even outer space. Only about 0.5 mm when fully grown, these stubby, plump and downright bizarre animals dance about in their damp, microscopic world feeding on plants, algae and even smaller invertebrates. Brett has chosen to celebrate them with in this clumsy, chromatic, yet lyrical waltz.
